The Minnesota chapter of Society of Professional Journalists is proud to co-sponsor an upcoming event that will bring together journalists and the public for a discussion on covering politics in greater Minnesota.
A public forum will be held on Wednesday, April 10th at 7 p.m. at the Zeitgeist in Duluth, located at 222 E. Superior Street. The event is free and open to the public. Because space is limited, please reserve a spot by contacting Neal Justin (njustin@startribune.com) by April 8th.
Journalists are also cordially invited to a media mixer before the public forum from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the venue. Email Neal if you are planning to attend.
What is the role of journalists in a divisive political climate? How can they do a better job of covering races and issues in areas outside of major metropolitan areas? How can we all work together to combat misleading news? Join some of the most influential media leaders in the state for a panel discussion and Q&A.
Panelists include:
Aaron Brown, Iron Range author, radio producer, instructor and columnist
Marshall Helmberger, publisher, The Timberjay
Laura McCallum, politics and government editor, Star Tribune
Tom Olsen, political reporter, Duluth News Tribune
Renee Passal, anchor/reporter, WDIO News
Both events are sponsored by the Minnesota chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association, Twin Cities Black Journalists, the Minnesota chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Minnesota News Guild, the Star Tribune and University of Minnesota Duluth.
