Star Tribune reporter Andy Mannix and photojournalist Renée Jones Schneider joined MNSPJ on Sept. 12 for a virtual Q&A to discuss how they reported and produced MNSPJ’s 2024 Story of the Year, “What Happened to Heather Mayer?“

Page One judges lauded the pair for their deep investigation of an often misunderstood community, writing: “The reporter treated survivors with dignity and respect as well as pointed out serious shortcomings in the criminal justice system that allowed domestic abuse to persist.”
